My fitness journey and transformation since lockdown last year. The picture on the left is during the peak of my menopausal hell, when I gained weight because I was not exercising as much due to knee injury, and the hormones had a field day storing fat. Since March 2020 I’ve been working out 5 to 6 times a week, which includes low impact and high impact dancercise routines, weight training, yoga, plank and abs workout. I’ve definitely toned down and I feel great. Not sure about my weight because I don’t weigh myself, the last time I checked was 6 months back, when I’d lost about 7 kgs. But the weighing scale is not always kind to you , the scales keep changing depending on the time of the , water reten and what you’ve eaten the previous night. So I just go by how I feel and by how well my clothes fit me 😊

The point I am trying to make, is that it takes time to achieve our fitness goals. It has taken me a year to get here and I haven’t yet reached my goal. For me the most important thing was strengthen my muscles, especially in my legs so that I could get back to doing Bharatanatyam, to shed the excess weight so that it is easier to dance, and also to overcome the horrible menopausal symptoms. We each have our own goals, and whatever targets you have set for yourselves, just have faith and be consistent. This journey is not easy, and at times you may feel that you want to give up because you are not progressing as fast as you thought you would. You will get there, just be patient. As my son often keeps reminding me that

”Rome wasn’t built in a day, so just hang in there”
